OK HERE WE GO:
So this morning, I opened this birthday card thinking ooh dayum, look at dat hiddles, mother you have good taste in cards…
I opened the card, however, and lost all ability to talk.
It wasn’t from my Mum.
Turns out my mum wrote to him with this blank card and he wrote it for me!
I am so overwhelmed and grateful and oh my crumpets I cannot even…
Thank you, Tom, you wonderful person, you made my day an incredibly special one!

This body of work is an exploration of the extent of cultural appropriation and encourages a discussion about it. I give the appropriator and the appropriated the opportunity to defend themselves and create a dialogue between them, while maintaining a neutral stance myself. I am not attacking those who appropriate, merely educating and creating awareness. I’m also exploring appropriation myself, and discovering the carying degrees of it within this visual conversation.
I’d like to make this a long term exploration, with a lot more participants as a form of generation-wide debate. If you’d like to be photographed to add your point of view, please do not hesitate to pop me a message here or an email at sanaahamid@yahoo.com and we could work something out!
I feel like this is an important topic…
However, there are instances when people appropriate other cultures without even knowing it… and ignorance should never be punished with cruel words. The only way to combat ignorance is with knowledge.
After that… I guess it’s okay to call someone an idiot x)

Status Update: Operation Fill Joyce’s Mailbox
Status: HUGE SUCCESS!!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all who sent my marvelous grandmother a note or card for her birthday. In all she received well over ONE HUNDRED cards, a little over half of which cited either Ravelry or Tumblr as the source, so thank you all! In addition to getting cards from all over the United States, she received cards from over twelve countries, including the UK, Germany, Japan, Canada, the Czech Republic, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, Sweden, Finland, and Kuwait! She was absolutely overwhelmed by all the personal stories, photos, and little gifts! It absolutely made her year!
A little note from her:
Here is proof that Operation Fill Joyce’s Mailbox was not a scam!My thanks to the 70 people who were kind enough to remember my 80th birthday.Your cards came from both the US and many international locations, going to the mailbox each day was exciting ! It was very interesting to read the personal notes and learn about your lives. I especially enjoyed seeing the pictures of families, pets, and your home cities.Special thanks to those who sent a gift, all of them were very much appreciated. All your kindness restored my faith in the goodness of people. I will always remember my 80th birthday, thank you for making it so enjoyable.God’s Blessings,Joyce Gifford
OMG I SEE MY LETTER TO HER. It’s the pink one in the middle :)

i think one day leonardo dicaprio should be the host that reads the nominees for best actor and when he opens the envelope to see who won it turns out his name is printed neatly in the center and he chokes up a little and his eyes water and his cohost takes the card and exclaims LEONARDO DICAPRIO!! and the audience cheers and leo cries and his supporting actors and actresses come up and hug him
i dont care if this goes against oscar tradition i just want leo to be happy
Someone write a fanfiction of this.
